🚀 Getting Started

Welcome to the SIR Book Club

📖
Book Discussion
A book we've all read
One member picks the title; everyone reads it. We meet to talk it over — usually hosted by one of the group's members.
💬
Open Discussion
Books & whatever's on our minds
A relaxed conversation about books, reading, and other topics of interest to the group — currently held by Zoom.

How the club works

The book group meets every two weeks, and we alternate between two kinds of meeting. One time it's a book discussion — a title chosen by a member that we've all read. The next time it's an open discussion of book-related and other topics of interest to the group. So in any given month you get a bit of both: the shared pleasure of talking about one book together, and the wider, easy conversation of readers who enjoy each other's company.

Book discussions are usually hosted by one of our members, and open discussions are currently held by Zoom — so you can take part from home. There's no test, no book report, and no pressure: come for the ones that interest you, and share as much or as little as you like.

How to join a discussion

Taking part is easy — here's all you need to do:

  1. 1Make sure you're on the book club's email list so you receive the meeting announcements. (New to the group? Contact the book club leader to be added.)
  2. 2For a book discussion, see the Reading List for the next book and read it beforehand if you can. For an open discussion, just bring yourself and whatever you've been reading or thinking about.
  3. 3Join us at the appointed time — over Zoom for open discussions, or at the host's for a book discussion. Introduce yourself, settle in, and jump into the conversation whenever you're ready.
💡 Check the Reading List page to see what's coming up and what has been recently discussed. Exact days and times are set by the group.
