What is the Stock Study Group?

We're a monthly gathering of SIR members who want to understand the stock market better — through open discussion and active participation, not lectures. Each meeting we talk over market trends and take a closer look at individual companies and how to evaluate them.

Our subjects range across common and preferred stocks, stock mutual funds, options, and how the markets actually work, along with the books and articles worth reading. Come with a question, a company you're curious about, or just your curiosity.

What we are — and what we aren't

We are a learning group. The goal is to become better, calmer, more informed investors by studying companies together and sharing what we find.

We are not a tip service, a stock-picking club, or a managed fund, and nothing we discuss is a recommendation to buy or sell. Every member makes their own decisions. Think of the group as a place to sharpen your judgment, not to be handed answers.

New to all this? Three easy first steps

  1. 1Skim Reading the Numbers so terms like P/E, EPS, and dividend yield feel familiar — you don't need to memorize anything, just recognize them.
  2. 2Pick one company you already know as a customer, and read the front page of its investor-relations site. Curiosity about a real business is the best on-ramp.
  3. 3Try the Stock Study Worksheet with that company's numbers to see how a valuation comes together — then bring your questions to a meeting.
💡 A beginner's mindset that serves you well: you're studying a business, not a ticker symbol. If you wouldn't want to own the whole company, the little slice called a share isn't really different.
